Sri Raja Vatsavai Butchi Seetayamma Jagapathi Bahadur Maha Ranee College was started in the year 1967 to commemorate the philanthropic maharance of Peddapuram samsthanam in response to long felt need of a college in this area.
Sri S.B.P.B.K. Satyanarayana Rao the then chairman of Zilla Parishad, East Godavari District took initiative in this regard. It is due to their pioneering zeal, the College owes its existence. The Government of Andhra Pradesh generously permitted the diversion of Rs. 90,000/- from the funds of Maharanee Choultry to the college.
The Sarvaraya Educational Trust, Kakinada donated Rs. 50,000/- for the college site. In addition substantial amounts were donated by Sri S.B.P.B.K. Satyanarayana Rao himself, and late Sri Muppana China Ankaiah and their brothers.
In 1998, Sri S.B.P.B.K. Satyanarayana Rao again donated Rs. 52,000/- and Rs. 30,000/- on two occasions for the development of the college.
Initially (1967) the college was started with PUC, B.A. and B.Com. sections only. In the following year, the B.Sc. course with MPC & CBZ combinations was also introduced. In 1969 the one-year PUC was replaced by two-year Intermediate course.
The college was granted academic Autonomy in July 1987. Restructured courses in B.Sc. and B.A. were started with M.P.AC., M.P.E. and E.P.P., E.C.F. combinations respectively.
After completion of five years, the management of this college decided to give up Autonomy. The college came into the main stream from 1993-1994, and reintegrated itself into Andhra University in all its academic matters. The college has been continuously scaling lofty heights during all these years with the excellent rapport and firm support of the locals.
During the 40th year of inception the college introduced postgraduate course in Physics, and undergraduate courses - B.Sc. - M.P.C., M.P.Cs. and Intermediate M.P.C. group with English medium. Now the strength of this college exceeds 2000 students, ably supported by 80 faculty members.
In the academic year 2006-2007, the college is accredited at the B++ level by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) - Bangalore.
