     Education had been a problem to Nidadavole and its neighboring villages two decades ago. No educational Institution prevailed in this area and few were educated. Recognizing the need for Education of the Town , the educational Society of Nidadavole came forward for establishing two Government Junior Colleges (Girls and Boys) and two Government Degree Colleges (Men and Women).

    Named after Smt. Velagapudi Durgaamba, our college, S.V.D. Government Degree College for Women- has been in the forefront in sending educated women into the Society, since its establishment in 1983. Smt Rajeswari Ramakrishnan, the reputed managing Director of Jypore Sugars Ltd., Chagallu contributed a great deal by financially supporting the college for its establishment as well as for providing infrastructural facilities.

     The college was established in 1983 vide G.OM.S. No:376 Dated 12-09-1983. At that time the college was run in the local lions club auditorium with B.COM and B.A. courses with only a few staff members. With the initiation of Smt Rajeswari Rama Krishnan the college was shifted from Auditorium to a permanent building in 1990 , which was constructed in half an acre of the Government land with the accommodation of 14 rooms 7in the Ground floor and 7 in the first floor .The contribution cost amounted to 16 Lakhs ,which was provided with 2 acres and a compound wall was constructed around the total area of 2.5 Acre land.

     Keeping in view the importance of information Technology ,the Nidadavole educational Society successfully mobilized the Government to introduce B.Sc. Computer Science in our College by paying Corpus fund . Smt. Rajeswari RamaKrishnan donated an amount of 2.5 Lakhs for this corpus fund. The course was started from the year 1998 by the efforts of the Educational Society. The additional accommodation of 3 rooms in the 2nd floor were provided with the financial assistance of Smt .Rajeswari Ramakrishnan.

     Permanent affiliation was given to the college in the year 1990-1991 vide RC No CII-1724/83, Dated 27-04-1991 of the Andhra University, Waltair. The college was admitted to U.G.C under 2F and 12B and thus got eligibility for required grant from U.G.C.

     The college has been securing good results in the University examinations. In April 2006 examinations, our college achieved 100% results in B.A., 83% results in B.Sc. and 70% results in B.Com. We are expecting that the college will have a bright future and go a long way in the field education.
