The Department of Education has come into existence 1973 .  M.A. Education Course was designed and had been offered at the University Level.  The Course which has been started with one reader four lecturers and with an intake of eight students have now grown into two Professors 3 Associate Professors and 1 Assistant Professor with a student intake of 60.

    Though the Department was originally intended to take up the pre-service programme subsequently the department had taken up a number of Research projects on the acute problems of the community life, rapid urbanization,  etc.  under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Eswara Reddy and  seminars and projects from National bodies like NCERT and Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh were conducted under the able leadership of Prof. S.C.Sarma and no. of Ph.D's were awarded under the able guidance of Prof. V.Krishna Murthy and Late Prof. P.Mohan Rao and the total number of Doctoral Degrees in Education is considered to be the highest among the South Indian Universities.  The staff of the department held positions in highest academic bodies in the field of Education like NCERT, NCTE and UGC.
