Department Profile
|
The course of Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare was started in 1973 in the
Department of Sociology, Social Work and Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare
and was given independent status of a department in 1976. The increasing tempo
of Industrialization, growing importance of Human Resource Management function
in Industrial and Business Organizations and consequent need for trained
personnel in the field of Man-Management led to the creation of this
department. It was realized that a full-time two year programme with intensive
training in Human Resource Management would be more useful to meet the needs of
the growing human resource management professon.
There is a welcome and increasing tendency on the part of employers that it is
only the trained and competent persons with positive attitude can only deliver
goods and tend to employ trained mangers in Personnel, Industrial Relations and
Welfare fields to effectively deal with the problems of Human Resources and
achieve quality management.
The nomenclature of the degree also appropriately changed from time to time from
M.A. Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare" to M.A. Industrial Relations and
Personnel Management" and finally to Master of Human Resources Management from
the academic year 1985. The course is given more practical and behavioral
orientation with focus on Human Resources and their efficient management.
The faculty comprises 4 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant
Professors.
