The Department of Russian was started under the Indo-USSR Cultural Exchange Programme in 1969 with  Mrs.Garbochev as the first Visiting Professor.To start with,there was only a certificate course.Later,the junior Diploma and the Senior Diploma were started in 1970.

      Prof.V.B.Sarma (retd) has been teaching in the department since 1992. The classes are held thrice a week on alternate days.
