Department of Sanskrit Profile
  

      The Department of Sanskrit came into existence in1954 with Prof. C. Kunhan Raja as the Founder Head. But the department actually started offering M.A. and Ph.D. from the year 1958 onwards . Several stalwarts in Sanskrit Literature were associated with the department. The major thrust areas of the department are Research in Darsanas, Sociological and Women's Studies  in Sanskrit Literature and Comparative Literary Criticism. It is a matter of pride for the department that even some IAS officers became interested in Sanskrit and did their Master's Degree and Research Degree from this Department . Some of the alumni of this department occupy very high positions. Many faculty members visited foreign countries like Germany, Australia, Canada and Thailand on academic assignments and also to participate in International Conferences. The teaching faculty of this department are invited by the UGC, APPSC, UPSC, and other similar agencies to act as experts, panel members and so on.

      The faculty have published extensively in National and International Journals on a very wide range of topics. Now the Department consists of 4 Professors, 1 Associate Professor and 2 Teaching Assistants. All the teachers possess Ph.D. Degrees .
