The Department of Special Education was running B.Ed. Special Education Teacher Training programme with reference to visually handicapped since 1989.  The concept of multi category approach in Special Education is drawing the attention of educators and teaching preparation centres in India.  In recognition of the growing trend in the field of Special Education the Department has started a comprehensive programme strengthening the existing B.Ed., Special Education.  On the recommendation of the Rehabilitation Council of India M.Ed., Special Education Programme has been started from 2000 - 2001.

      The Department has adequate infrastructure and currently there are 3 faculty members.  More than 80% of the trainees of this department have got employment in both organized and unorganized sectors.
