Directorate of Admissions - History and Origin of the Office

With increasing demand from students of affiliated colleges, autonomous colleges, various universities and other states for admissions into various PG courses offered in its campus and affiliated colleges, Andhra University faced problems while making merit order lists for admissions based on eligibility criteria. Thus having realized the importance of the admissions through common entrance test, it started a separate office to conduct Andhra University Common Entrance Test (AUCET) examinations in 1990 with Prof. B. Prasada Rao, Department of Economics as Convener and Prof. G. Subrahmanyam, Department of Commerce & Management Studies as Co-convener. They formulated rules and regulations to conduct entrance tests, to award ranks based on marks obtained and to prepare merit order lists for subsequent admissions. Since then the admissions into various Science & Technology, Arts & Commerce and Engineering courses offered in Andhra University colleges have been made through AUCET till 2005 by the respective college principals.

To adopt common guidelines and admission procedure, the office of Directorate of Admissions has been established on 1 st October 2005 to both conduct AUCET and to make admissions through common centralized admission process with Prof. A.V. Prasada Rao as Director and Prof. S.K.V.S. Raju and Prof. Ibrahim Khan as Associate Directors. The office is situated in Vijayanagar Palace , Peda Waltair, Visakhapatnam . Admission process for every academic year starts in the month of January by constituting an advisory committee with the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor as Chairman. The advisory committee, in its meetings formulate the guidelines and admission process for that year. Notification will be issued with admission schedule in popular national and regional daily news papers inviting applications for admissions. The admissions into various courses will be made through entrance tests and through centralized computer aided counseling. The admission process involves issue of notification, registration of applications, processing of applications, issue of hall tickets, conduct of entrance tests, award of ranks and admission counseling.
