The
Department of Civil Engineering initiated a B.Arch Course in the year 1989.
Prof. G.V.S.Sai is instrumental in establishing the Division, which was
inagurated by Sri D.V. Subba Rao, Mayor, and Visakhapatnam on 23rd October
1989. Independent Department status was confirmed on 9th April
2001. The faculty of the department has strived hard to establish a strong
department. Since, architecture as a profession deals with the creation of a
comfortable physiological and psychological living environment, it is very
important to train the students with a holistic and futuristic perspective.
With this in view, the department had developed a curriculum, which aims at
exposing the students to various fields of architecture and its allied
fields.
The Department has encouraged students to interact with various
Organizations. The faculty and students conducted a Zonal level convention
in October 2000. The Department conducted exhibitions to bring awareness of
Architecture to the Public on various occasions, and also conducted with All
India Institute of Architects (AIIA) on various occasions is organizing
seminars, exhibitions and even National convention held during 2001. The
highlights of the convention were the fund-supporting building material
exhibition, the
Visakhapatnam heritage and modern architectural exhibition. The convention
also conducted workshops on the use of concrete fly ash for building,
computer aided design & drafting and building openings.
The faculty of the department is actively involved in
consultancy work. The focus of the work is in the areas of architecture
design studios, Computer Aided Design, Town planning, climatology (energy
efficient built environment), landscape design, interior design and ecology.
The
Department also offers one Postgraduate course specialization in M.
Planning (environmental) started in 2006 The department is very active
in industrial and technical consultancy. it scaled to the present
status.

To train and educate the student to become
successful professionals in the field of architecture, to sensitize them
and make them responsive to their environment and society within which
they have to create a sustainable built environment.

Mission of the department
The
mission of the department is to develop the student’s ability to harness
his creative skills through latest scientific knowledge, design a humane
built environment that responds to the local context.
Broad objectives of the course:

Syllabus designed to link the studio projects to the
theory subjects, to give a scientific grounding to the ideas of the
students.

Extensive case studies conducted for design projects
to enable the students to get first hand experience of the built
environment and sensitize them o the social, cultural, psychological
and economical impacts of the built spaces have on us.

Enabling of self-assessment to seminars and
discussions, which form the basis of all the studio subjects.

Study tours are conducted to give the students an
exposure to the Indian architectural ethos, its diversity, richness
and beauty.

Computer aided design is imparted to enable the
students to use an effective tool to express their ideas in the most
comprehensive manner.

the course
Today architectural
education generates conviction which allows them to transcend the limits
of style and fashion and make architecture a language that is humane
response for creating an environment that alleviates the human spirit
and engenders a unity in society while respecting the diversity that
gives it excitement and color. |
