The Department of Engineering Mathematics became a full fledged department on par with other branches of Engineering in 1980. Prior, it was only a section of Mathematics over a number of years. Since the inception of the College, the Teaching of Mathematics for U.G. and P.G. students used to be undertaken by the staff members of Mathematical Physics.  Soon after formation of the department, programs leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D degrees were commenced. Initially the department had a total of 9 teachers of 3 cadres and now the strength came down to 6 leaving the 3 posts unfilled. Being  an important subject for engineers, it caters the developmental needs of the sister departments apart from the teaching load.

       The department is involved in a number of activities like conducting seminars, workshops and guest lectures by eminent people of other Universities and R & D Organizations.
