1. Memoranda
of Understanding:
To develop relationships for mutual benefit, the University so far
entered 40 into MoUs and established linkages with more than 60
organizations of International repute. They include Research
Institutions, Foreign Universities, Government Organizations,
Non-Government Organizations, etc.
2. ISO
Certification:
One of the prestigious achievements of the University in 2006 is to get
ISO 9001:2000 certification, which is valid for 3 years. The University
declared its Vision, Mission and Quality Objectives. A Quality Manual has
been prepared and circulated to all the departments. A team of 20 Internal
Quality Auditors have been trained and with their help Internal Audit was
conducted for all the academic departments. Two faculty members were
given lead auditor training.
3. Quality
Policy: The
University declared its quality policy and communicated to all its

4. Quality
Objectives:
Quality objectives are
set for every department and targets are fixed for the next academic year
to enable the departments to mobilize resources towards focused growth.
5. Quality
Circles:
Quality Circles are promoted in all academic departments to involve
faculty, students, research scholars and non-teaching staff in the
organization and development process of the respective academic
departments.
6. Research
Grant: To
encourage research, financial support of Rs.50,000/- per project has been
granted to 50 faculty members every year. An amount of Rs. 25 Lakhs per
year is earmarked purpose.
7. University
Research Fellowship:
An amount of Rs. 50 lakhs has been allocated provide University research
fellowships to research scholars.
8. Dr.
Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan award for Best Academician of the year:
To recognize and encourage meritorious teachers, Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan ‘Best Academician of the year’ Award has been constituted
among teaching faculty by adopting specific selection criteria. The
Vice-Chancellor of the University presents certificates of merit to the
award winners. The awardees will be felicitated every year on 5th
September. In the year 2006, Eight faculty members achieved the award
and in 2007 12 faculty members achieved the award.
9. Performance
Evaluation:
For the academic departments and individual faculty members, performance
indicators have been developed and the performance is assessed
periodically.
10. Feedback:
Feedback from students on faculty performance, usefulness of the
curriculum, infrastructure, administration and support services has been
taken to identify service failures and deficiencies and to take
appropriate corrective and preventive measures. Feedback is also taken
from employees, parents, retired teachers, supporting staff and alumni of
the University.
11. Internal
Audit:
Periodic audit is
conducted in all departments by qualified internal auditors. The audit
reports are discussed at length at the review meetings of the
administration to take up corrective and preventive measures.
12. Student
Charter:
The prime aim of the
University is to see that every student has equal access to competent, and
qualitative teaching which leads to vibrant academic, social and personal
growth on the campus and off the campus. For this purpose, the University
adopted a Student Charter which reflects the goals and commitment of the
University and the responsibilities of the students to improve the
University environment by upholding its values.
13. Dial
Your University:
In order to have a
continued interaction with stakeholders of the University, the University
has introduced a program called Dial your University. The
Vice-chancellor along with other officials of the University will be
available online, for the public, on every Saturday to interact and
provide information on the courses offered, fee details, examination
schedules, academic calendar, etc. and clarify their doubts.
14.University
Adalat:
It has been
constituted to settle the internal disputes within the University Campus
and is organized on every 3rd Saturday in the College of Law.
15. Infrastructure
development:
Special focus has been
given for the Infrastructure development of the University. Construction
of Biotechnology and Microbiology building, Guest House, Central Canteen,
Hostels for International Students and Seminar halls in various
Departments, providing extension facilities in many Departments, improving
Sports facilities and renovation of Convocation Theatre and Central
Library are part of this development programme.

17.International
Students:
Special focus has been
given to attract students from foreign countries to the campus for
pursuing higher studies. A brochure was prepared and sent to all
Embassies by the Advisor, International Student Affairs.
18.Training
for Supporting Staff:
To bring attitudinal change and to develop administrative skills, the
University officers are given training. 25 training programmes have been
organized and more than 550 employees were given training by the end of
March 2008.
19.Earn
while you learn programme:
This programme has
been introduced in the University Library. Under this programme, the
University students from different constituent colleges are assigned some
work in the library during their leisure time, after the study hours. An
amount of Rs. 25/- per hour is paid to the students under the Program.
20.Alumni
Associations:
The Heads of the
Departments are requested to promote alumni associations and every
department has started a separate Alumni Association at the Department
level and registered the same under the Cooperative Societies Registration
Act.
21.Employability:
The University is taking up the responsibility of providing Placement
to the Students by way of establishing continued relationships with
the industry. Placement officers are appointed in each college and in
each of the four PG centers to assist and encourage placement activity.
The initial results are positive and hopefully by next year the University
will become a credible source for campus recruitments for many companies.
The University organized a few Job Melas for the benefit of
students of the University and its Affiliated Colleges.
22.Campus
Networking:
In order to strengthen the applications of information and communication
technology in academics, research and administration, the University has
taken up campus networking project and completed it successfully.
23.Online
Examinations:
The University introduced online examinations in all regular UG and PG
courses.
24.Nomination
of Representatives from industry in PG Board of Studies:
To bridge the gap between expectations from the industry and the
perception of the academicians, the University has decided to nominate two
members from Industry to each PG Board of Studies.
25.Management
Review Meetings:
Monthly Management Review Meetings are conducted by the IQAC involving
Principals of Campus Colleges and Heads of all Academic Departments with
Vice-Chancellor in chair.
26.Grievance
Redressal Mechanism:
To resolve the grievances internally, the following grievance redressal
mechanism has been designed by instituting the following Grievance Cells.

27.Planning,
Monitoring and Evaluation Board:
To review the progress and performance of various divisions of the
University and to prepare plans for the future, this Board has been
constituted.
28.Quality
Campaign in Affiliated Colleges:
To promote quality consciousness in affiliated colleges, the IQAC directed
all the affiliated colleges to establish Quality Assurance Cell and to
nominate a Quality Assurance Officer. The IQAC in association with some
affiliated colleges, organized five workshops on Quality Themes in each
district of Andhra University region.
29.Health
Insurance for Students:
The University introduced Health Insurance Scheme for all the students.
30.Orientation
Programme for Placement Officers and Student advisors:
The University has taken up initiatives to promote placement activity.
Placement officers have been appointed for all campus colleges and PG
Centers. An orientation programme for placement officers and student
advisors was organized. As a result of these efforts, the campus
recruitment has improved significantly.
31.Teaching
Plans:
All the Heads of the Departments are developing subject wise teaching
plans in coordination with the faculty.
32.Activity
Diary:
In order to generate a record of daily activities at the department level,
an Activity Diary was designed. The Heads of the Departments / Directors /
Coordinators are supposed to fill the columns of the Activity Diary every
day and sign at the end of the day.
33.AU
Quarterly Bulletin:
To disseminate information relating to various developments, the IQAC
brought out AU Quarterly Bulletin for circulation among the departments of
the University, its affiliated colleges, other Universities in India,
relevant Government officials and public organizations. The first issue
of the bulletin was released in July 2006 by the Director, NAAC, Prof. V.S.
Prasad.
34.Studentships:
The
University is providing studentships for the first three rankers of M.Sc.
Tech every year. An amount of Rs.1.00 lakh has been allocated in the
University Budget for the purpose.
35.NSS:
To promote University-Society Interaction, the NSS volunteers of the
University were involved in HIV / AIDS awareness campaign in July, 2006.
Two blood donation camps were organized and several students actively
participated and donated blood. Four NSS Youth Leadership Training
Programmes were conducted from October 2005 to 550 NSS volunteers under
the University jurisdiction. Nearly 30,000 NSS volunteers participated in
AASHA programme. Plantation programmes were also organized. From July
2005, 120 NSS Programme Officers were trained under a 10-day Orientation
Training Programme and 17 NSS Programme Officers were trained under a
5-day Refresher Course organized by NSS Training & Orientation Centre (NSS
TOC).
The Andhra University NSS unit has adopted 500 villages in the five
Districts of Andhra Pradesh viz., Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam,
East Godavari and West Godavari. Regional Co-ordinators were appointed to
take up 58 village development programmes in each of these villages. To
achieve the objective of personality development of the student through
community participation, the NSS Unit is involving 45,000 students in the
process of village development.
36.Directorate of
Admissions:
The University
constituted Directorate of Admissions to conduct Entrance tests for
admission into various courses and to take up admission process. The
objective is to give special focus for student communication, transparency
and speed.
37.Examination (Tatkal scheme):
Andhra University has
introduced Tatkal Scheme for the issue of certificates, on the same
day, to the degree holders on payment of special fees.
38.Modernization of
University Library:
The University library
is modernized by equipping with computers and internet facility. The
ambiance of the library has been improved and additional student
facilities are provided.
39.Community
Services:
Special focus has been
given to community services during the last five years. Several
programmes have been undertaken by Engineering College and some
departments like Social Work, Anthropology, Adult and Continuing
Education, Psychology and Para Psychology, Law and Environmental Sciences.
These are in addition to the programmes taken up by the NSS unit.
40. A scheme of
coaching classes for entry in services for SC/ST Students:
The scheme was sanctioned by UGC and an amount of Rs.8.5 lakhs was granted
for the year 2006-07 for this purpose.
41.A scheme of coaching classes for
entry into services for the students belonging to Minority communities:
The scheme was sanctioned by UGC with a financial assistance of Rs.8.5
lakhs for the year 2006-07.
42.A scheme of coaching classes to
prepare SC/ST students for NET Examination:
The scheme was granted by UGC and a financial support of Rs.8 lakhs was
given for the year 2006-07.
43.A scheme of Remedial coaching classes
at UG/PG level for SC/ST students:
The scheme was granted by UGC with a financial support of Rs.9.75 lakhs
for the year 2006-07.
44.Centre for study
of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy:
This centre is one among the thirteen sanctioned by UGC in the country.
The UGC has sanctioned an amount of Rs.40,00,000/- for the year 2006-07.

The University distributed 450 desktop PCs to the faculty.
