The Post-Graduate Department of English in the present Andhra University Campus, Kakinada was established in December 1977. The Department since then has taken long strides and progressed steadily to carve out a special place of pride as a seat of higher learning in English language and literature. The strength of the Department is in its committed and dedicated faculty, which conscientiously involves itself in imparting proper training to the students and making quality contribution to research studies.
The Department switched over to semester-system in the academic year 2000 - 2001 by updating the syllabus at M.A. level. The Department is equipped with a well-furnished language lab to cater to the communication skills of the department and the campus as well. The alumni of this Department are well placed in the society. The thrust areas are on literary theory, American literature, Indian writing in English, New Literature and modern European Literature. Besides this the faculty is exploring new pastures like translation studies, gender studies, communicative skills and interdisciplinary studies like literature and society, literature and psychology etc.

(a).Candidates with a minimum second class (50% of Marks) in their Master Degree in the Discipline concerned
(b). Preference to those candidates who Qualify in NET and SLET examination |
3. M.A English Language and Literature (Four- Semister Course) |
(a).Candidates with a bachelor's degree (B.A or B.Sc or B.Com or B.F.L) with part I English for Maximum of 200 marks or more
( b .) In addition to (a) admission is through Andhra University Common Entrance Test . |
