                                                                                           ACHIEVEMENTS AT A GLANCE

  • Visit of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) - Peer Team declaring the University at B++ level, an institutional score of 80-85%

  • Setting up the Internal Quality Assurance Cell ( IQAC) immediately, as a post-accreditation quality assurance measure.

  • Organisation of  NACC-Workshops - one in the campus and three in Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam Districts - to spread the message of Assessment and Accreditation, make colleges know the action plan methodology of rating and the key factors that contribute to the objective of  " achieving excellence".

  • Conduct of Four Convocations - the XXI and XXII Convocation held in November 2002, the XXII, XXIII  held in March 2003, XXV Convocation held in March, 2004 and XXVI Convocation held on 24th March, 2005.

  • Prompt Disposal of UGC IX Plan Assistance Utilisation of Accounts to the tune of more than four crores, spent for all developmental activities and infrastructural facilities, enabling the University the University to actively strive for steady and continuous physical and academic expansion and innovation commensurate  with the changing realities of the contemporary global situtaion.

  • Visit the UGC X Plan Committee and the sanction of 3.705 crores to the University based on its recommendations. The immediate release of Rs. 222.30 lakhs, three-fifths of allocation under the Head, Development Assistance to the Universities, Sector I; the break-up of the total allocation being spelt out to various Departments and Central facilities.

  • Creation of University Development Fund  meant for contributing towards the Physical growth of the University, enrichment of the productivity potential of the University and generations of more intensive and advanced research.

  • Mobilisation of Generous Grants  from the Public and setting up of the Resource Mobilisation Committee which has yielded whooping results; the one crore grant at the outset given by the noted German Philanthropist Dr. H.H. Deichmann for the constitution of Auditorium-cum-Seminar Hall.

  • Foundation Stones laid for the construction of the Power House Building, the Central Lab, Dr. H.H Deichmann Auditorium-cum-Seminar Hall, the Vikasa Building for Non-Teaching staff and Pariksha Bhavan (Examinations Building) by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

  • Appeal made and got the land from the District Collector to the extent of  3.75 acres free of cost, for the Ongole P.G. Centre.

  • Achieving considerable headway in the Building Construction Programme - additional floor-space and rooms being provided to the Hostels, the renovation  of academic services block, the improvement of sanitary conditions in the hostels and P.G. Departments and the completion of Academic Services Block-VIII.

  • The University Alumni Association and Departmental Alumni Associations formed to foster the links between the creators and users of  knowledge.

  • Involving the faculty in the preparation of the Vision Document for Perspective Planning for the District.

  • Formation of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell, keeping in view the practical needs of the students with a view to make campus - interviews a reality, on par with any premier institution like IIT, IIM, Xaviers or Bajaj.

  • The setting up of the Directorate of Admissions to take care of the Post Graduate and Research Admissions.

  • Provision of Clinical Lab Facilities for testing and counselling having equipped the Health Centre with Blood Analyser and E.C.G.

  • Campus Development with the provision of inter-cum-telecommunication connectivity, the laying of bi-terminus roads, the construction of the Silver Jubilee Park and the purchase of a grass-remover for the up-keep and maintenance of cleanliness on the campus.

  • Equipment for all Departments and Administrative offices with state-of-art technology, scientific equipment and sophisticated computers.

  • Formation of the University Manual / Code Committee enjoined with the duty of preparation of Laws, Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations governing the University, and the administrative manual, statutory orders of the Syndicate / Board of Management etc.

  • Students Amenities being stepped up for the benefit of students. Modernisation of kitchens, provision of clean drinking water, installation of water-coolers and aquaguards given top priority. Painting, white-washing and cleaning of the premises undertaken on a ware-footing.

  • Revival of the publication of the University Handbook and the University  Newsletter.

  • Centre for Distance Education  restarted, pursuing the twin goals of total literacy and dissemination of knowledge to every nook and corner of the three District under the University purview and the call of the UNESCO that the time learn is the "whole life-time", admission open to overseas students being a novel feature.

  • Organisation of Orientation Programmes for Non-Teaching staff to Record/Junior Assistants, Senior Assistants and administrative staff upto the level of Superintendents with a view to motivate them towards better levels of  performance and perceptive improvement in attitude to work.

  • Regular conduct of meetings to maintain the Academic Schedule/Code of Conduct for Degree Colleges with regard to the conduct of examinations, college affiliations, fiscal policy and with an emphasis being laid on Restructuring of Courses to make them learner - oriented and interdisciplinary.

  • Introduction of Five New Courses for the academic years 2002-03 and 2003-04 - M.Tech. (Biotechnology), M.S.c (Electronics and Instrumentation Technology), M.A. (Journalism and Communication ), M.Tech. programme  in Computer Science and Certificate course in Beauty Culture and Health Care.

  • Introduction /Implementation of the Citizens Charter aimed at better quality services rendered by different wings of the University and the commitment of the University administration with regard to the maintenance of the time schedule for rendering services.

  • Sixty three colleges within the University purview accorded permission to start various P.G. Courses and 2 P.G. Colleges, 4 Pharmacy colleges,  1 Engineering  College , 2 Hostel Management Colleges, 32 Degree colleges and 24 B.Ed. colleges given sanction for affiliation.

  • Regular conduct of M.S. (IS)  Faculty Improvement Programmes and Student Knowledge Fora encouraged by the support of APSCHE, Hyderabad  to train faculty  members and supply teaching materials in the form of CDs, expert lectures, power-point presentations, and  question banks being made available to the fourteen colleges offering  the  programme.

  • Catching-up with the On-Job Training Programmes initiated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as part of the Human Resource Development and the creation of Student Knowledge Forum  in various colleges, leading to the provision of  necessary man-power in empowering students and teachers with the knowledge required to build e-Governance and use of Public Domain Software Tools.

  • The University having many FIRSTS to its credit, in its efforts to tone up the general administration and streamline the examinations and expedite the publication of results:

                    *  First in the State to introduce Instant Examinations
                    * First in the State to provide revaluation facility for P.G. students
                    * Provision of answer scripts for verification to U.G. students
                    * Conduct of Advance Supplementary Examinations for U.G. students
                        at  the very  beginning of the academic year to save the number of working days.
                    * One - Time opportunity for betterment or completion of P.G. courses.
                    *  First in the State to make headway in the direction of the introduction of  Semester  system at U.G. level as well.
                    * First in the State to encourage Sports-Champions by way of giving incentive marks.

  • Opening up scope for  New Areas of Study to reconcile the demands of depth and direction with the need for academic freedom and activity.

  • Moving away from the annual to Semester System in conformity with the recommendations of the UGC  Curriculum Development Committee. Proactive roles adopted to facilitate changes in the curriculum by way of  renewing and updating with the prime objective of maintaining high standards of education.

  • Top priority was given to the filling up backlog vacancies with regard to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribe and P.H. for  teaching and non-teaching positions.

  • Provision of  INFLIBNET and INTERNET   facilities to all the Departments, the Library and all administrative offices.

  • Catching up  with all Government   Programmes such as Sramadaan, Clean and Green and Chaduvula Panduga.

  • Earn While You Learn Programme initiated to enable students to earn by way of taking care of duties in the Library to start with, and without prejudice to their Studies.

  • The years 2002, 2003 marked by the Inauguration of New Building in the Nuzvid P.G. Centre, the  inauguration of Academic Block-VII and VIII, the Silver Jubilee Building, the Principal's office, the Commerce Seminar Hall, the Andhra Bank Extension Counter and computerised wing of the State Bank of  India, in the new premises and the extension block to the Ladies Hostel.

  • Impressive momentum given to On-going Research Projects to the tune of Rs.105.28 lakhs sponsored by various agencies such as  DST, UGC, CSIR, AICTE, DAE etc., and sanction of UGC-Funded Major Research projects to the tune of Rs. 13.98 lakhs in the recent months.

  • Institution of Endowment Lectures in many Departments.

  • Clean and Green Programme on the campus on a regular basis.

  •  Regular conduct of  Farmers Training Programme  on Wasteland Development and Fish Farming.

  • Strengthening the tradition of Promoting and sustaining research culture as evident from the award 44 Ph.Ds., 57 M.Phils., publication of 22 books and 162 research papers.

  • Initiatives made to collaborate with 175 Industry /Institution through Memoranda of Understanding signed by the University to promote inter-institutional and institution -industry interface. Efforts being made to enter into MOU with foreign Universities.

  • Research Admissions streamlined to make it an annual feature. Provision made for non-teaching employees in the University, fulfilling the eligibility criteria to enter into the research stream. Provision made for extramural research whereby Administrators employed in National Laboratories Government / Quasi Government Organisations. public sector undertakings as well as organisations / establishments which have entered into M.O.U. with the University can seek admission into research.

  • Service Learning Links being forged keeping in view Higher Education's responsibility to develop the next generation of active citizens and the campus's responsibility to set examples of good citizenship. Fillip given to the Department of Adult & Continuing Education Extension Work and Field Outreach to community training and motivation programmes for the optimum utilisation of human resources towards National Integration, Highest Percentage of Literacy  and Health Awareness.

  • The starting of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair, once again, for the study and research of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's thought.

  • Student Activites:-  Encouragement given to students to participate in Inter-University Events, hosting Youth Festivals, College Day Celebrations and the organisation  of cultural competitions in debate, elocution, quiz, light-vocal, western-vocal, Mono-action, Indian Classical Western Instrumental music, by  the Fine Arts Association, the students having lifted several trophies in these two years.

  • Sports:- Efforts made to host the South Zone All India Inter-Zonal Inter-University Badminton and South-Zone Women's kabaddi Championships yeilding stunning results, the University, the University having lifted the Winner's Cup in the first two events and the third place in the Kabaddi events, the winning of Gold Models in Power-Lifting and Weight-Lifting, to add to the crowning glory. Permission accorded to the University by the All India Sports Board for conduct of PECET-2003 & PECET-2004 Examinations.

 

  • The Organisation of as many as 22 UGC-Funded Refresher Courses by various Departments, pursuing the twin goals of constantly upgrading skills and keep pace with accelerated multiplying of various branches of knowledge.

  • The organisation of 34 National and International Conferences  / Workshops/ Seminars by almost all the Departments.

  •  Encouragement given to the NSS Unit in having a clear agenda as action plan as an outcome of which a record performance creating assets worth several lakhs of rupees were registered and the NSS Co-ordinator having bagged the Best Co-ordinator Award from the State Government.

  •  Career on Wheels (COW):  The University has introduced a novel and innovative programme  by name 'Career on Wheels' (COW),  with the collaboration of the Regional Employment Officer (REO), Vijayawada. The railway commuters, both students and employees, who travel between Gudivada and Vijayawada will be taught 'Communication Skills in English', leading a certificate at the end of 6 months. The journey period of 1 1/2 hour will be effectively used for imparting communication skills in English. The Centre for Distance Education will conduct week end classes, as usual, at Vijayawada on Sundays. This programme is first of its kind and may be extended to other courses also in future.

  •   Didactical Environmental Education Doctrine (DEED) Award awarded by the Confederation of Indian Universities. New Delhi in association with International Association of Educators for World Peace (Affiliated to United Nations - ECOSOC, DPI, UNESCO, UNICEF) at India International Centre, New Delhi.

  •  Got the  change of Name of Nagarjuna University as Acharya Nagarjuna University through Government ordinance.

  •   Installed Acharya  Nagarjuna Statue in the campus and it was unveiled by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

  •  Honourary Colonel Award presented by N.C.C., Government of India.

  • Initiated the International Research Journal in Mathematics "Acharya Nagarjuna International Journal of Mathematics & Information Technology" which is first of  its kind in Andhra Pradesh.

  • Conducted successfully All India Inter-University Athletic Meet held in ANU campus from 28-12-2004 to 1-1-2005.

  • An amount of Rs. 4,39,836/- collected from the public by the students to honour "Chief Minister Relief Fund " for distribution of Tsunami victims.

  • Foundation  stone laid for the construction of M.B.A. Building, Academic & Administrative Block in A.N.U. campus.

  • Foundation stone laid for construction of Academic Building at ANU PG Centre, Ongole.

  • Foundation stone laid for construction of Distance Education Building in ANU campus.

  • Launched Web-based Blood Donor Club in ANU campus which  is first of its kind in the country.
