·         Another “Workshop on Autonomous Status” for the AU affiliated colleges was conducted on 31st July 2006 at 10.00 a.m. with a view to bring to the notice of the managements of the colleges that are having permanent affiliation and included under Sec.2(f) & 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956 and are potential to be sanctioned as Autonomous Colleges.  Prof. G.Ramachandrudu, Dean (CDC), in his welcome address explained that the intention of the Workshop is to motivate the eligible colleges to go in for autonomy and informed the importance of autonomous status. Dr. Gunasekharan, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission who participated in the Workshop has said that the UGC aims at achieving at least 10% of the eligible colleges to become Autonomous by the end of the X Plan (2002-2007).  Prof. L.Venugopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor opined that the University is aiming at granting autonomy to many colleges in this academic year.  Autonomy gives greater opportunities to design their own courses, more credible examination system, and student academic support programmes.
