Center for Nuclear Techniques

In February 1980, the annual symposium on "NUCLEAR AND RADION CHEMISTRY" was organized in the erstwhile department of Chemistry and several scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai and various universities participated in that symposium. During the course of the symposium Prof. M.N.Sastri, Professor of Nuclear Chemistry mooted the idea of establishing a Centre for use by researchers in physical, biological and earth sciences. After several deliberations it was suggested to the University to submit proposals for starting an agency named as Centre for Nuclear Techniques for this purpose. It was established in the year 1982 with a grant of Rs.25.30 lakhs from the Department of Atomic energy (DAE) as an inter-disciplinary Research Centre with Prof.M.N.Sastri as founder Programe Coordinator. Prof. Sastri served the Centre upto August 1985. Prof. V. Lakshminarayana, Professor in Nuclear Physics ( September 1985 - May 1989), Prof. K.Venkata Reddy, Professor in Nuclear Physics (June 1993 - July 1997), Prof.B.Mallikarjuna Rao, Professor of Nuclear Physics(August 1997 - August 2002), Prof.V.Muralidhara Rao, Professor of Nuclear Chemistry (September 2002 - November 2002) served as Programme Coordinators of the Centre Prof. A.Nageswara Rao, Professor of Nuclear Chemistry took charge as Coordinator of the Centre on 1-12-2002.

A grant of Rs. 5.0 lakhs was released by the UGC during VI Plan towards the constructions of the  building. A post of Radio-chemist and also an Electronics maintenance Engineer were also sanctioned in the same plan and were also sanctioned in the same plan and were filled in 1986.
