      The alumni of the Department occupied many coveted positions in India and abroad like Central Govt. Secretaries of Steel, Mines & Coal, Home and Foreign Affairs, Director-Generals, Deputy Director Generals & Directors of Geological Survey of India, Atomic minerals Division, National Remote Sensing Agency, Central Ground water Department, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Oil India Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited, National Mineral Development Corporation, Coal India Limited, Tata Iron & Steel Company, National Building & Roads Corporation, Hindusthan Copper Limited, Directorates of Mines & Geology, Singareni Collieries Corporation Limited, Directorates of Ground water Department, Hindustan Aluminum Company, Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited, National Geophysical Research Institute, Regional Research Laboratory, IITS, Indian School of Mines and many Universities. The alumni also served in many international bodies of Miami (USA), Alaska (USA), Brasilia(Brazil), Heildelberg (Germany), Kyoto (Japan) and Canada Geological Survey (Canada). It shows that the alumni of the department have been working everywhere on the globe in geological and related fields.

      The students after Post-Graduation can also be successful as professional geologists and can undertake independent geo-scientific works. They themselves can go for mining of mineral deposits ,where they will be preferred when compared to non-geology fellows.
