Research
  

      The department has been recognized for its research activities in Theoretical Geophysics, Exploration geophysics in the fields of Electrical, Gravity and Magnetic, Rock and Palaeo-magnetism, Groundwater Resources and Seismology.

Projects:

      This department has completed about 40 major research projects and 15 minor research projects funded by different agencies like Department of Science & Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Oil and Natural Gas Commission, Indian Institute of Petroleum Geology and Central Ground Water Department, Dept. of Atomic Energy, Dept. of Environment.

Ongoing Projects:

  1. Crustal Structure and regional tectonics in parts of seismically active EGMB from Gravity surveys.
    Cost of the project : Rs.33,90,000/-
    Duration : 2001- 04(3 years)
    Principal Investigator: Dr.P.Rama Rao
     
  2. Magnetotelluirc studies across EGMB and adjoining Dharwar/Bastar cratons
    Cost of the project : Rs.12.07lakhs
    Duration : 2002- 05(3 years)
    Principal Investigator: Dr.P.Rama Rao

Doctoral Awards: More than 76 degrees leading to Ph.D and D.Sc have been awarded.

Research Publications:

  • The department has to its credit more than 1000 Research papers published by its faculty and research staff in referred journals since its inception.
  • In addition Four Books and a Monograph that serve the purpose of both reference and post graduate curriculum were published.

Scientific Seminars & Training Programmes:

      The faculty presented a number research papers at the International and National seminars organized both in India and abroad.  In addition, with the expertise and infrastructure developed over years, the department has organized a number of National and International Seminars, Workshops and Training Programmes in the last three decades. To name some of the recent events

  1. National seminar on "geophysical exploration: retrospect and prospect"- held during 10 and 11 February, 2000.
  2. A course on " watershed development " was organized in Andhra University Academic Staff College for teachers and employees of government agencies May 22- June 10, 2000.
  3. National seminar of the Indian geophysical union on "natural hazards and disaster management- role of earth system scientists" - held during 18 to 20 December, 2001.
  4. National seminar on " exploration for non-conventional resources - tools and strategies" - held during 30 and 31 August, 2002.
  5. An International seminar on "water shed Development with a special colloquium on 'Drinking Water supply in SAARC countries' and XXII Annual Convention of Association of Hydrologists of India held during 16-18, October 2003.
