On-going International Collaborative Research Training Programme:

  • Alcorn State University, Mississippi, USA, funded by NIH, USA

Scientific Achievements:

  • Laboratory experiments on economically important species of crabs have lead to development of commercially viable technology for mud crab hatchery.
     
  • Two major research projects funded by European Commission and Dept. of Ocean Development have been successfully completed.
     
  • Underwater scanning equipment (Sea Spider) designed and fabricated is currently on trail: to be commissioned very soon.
     
  • Dark vision rotary Video Microscope tested successfully.
     
  • Isolation of metallothionein (metal binding protein) in cultivable species of crustaceans and its use as a biomarker for heavy metal contamination.
     
  • Microbial extracts isolated from this laboratory have shown bio-active compounds useful against dimentia gastric ulcers and neurological disorders.  In-vivo screening is in progress in collaboration with other National Laboratories.
