Scientific Achievements:

Laboratory experiments on economically important species of crabs have lead to development of commercially viable technology for mud crab hatchery.

Two major research projects funded by European Commission and Dept. of Ocean Development have been successfully completed.

Underwater scanning equipment (Sea Spider) designed and fabricated is currently on trail: to be commissioned very soon.

Dark vision rotary Video Microscope tested successfully.

Isolation of metallothionein (metal binding protein) in cultivable species of crustaceans and its use as a biomarker for heavy metal contamination.

Microbial extracts isolated from this laboratory have shown bio-active compounds useful against dimentia gastric ulcers and neurological disorders. In-vivo screening is in progress in collaboration with other National Laboratories.
